Recipe: Apple Scones
Ingredients:
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/3 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cut into small pieces
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup diced apples (peeled and cored)
Instructions:
1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, and cinnamon.
3. Add the cold butter pieces to the dry ingredients and use a pastry cutter or your fingers to work the butter into the flour mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs.
4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the milk, egg, and vanilla extract.
5. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until just combined.
6. Gently fold in the diced apples until evenly distributed throughout the dough.
7. Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and shape it into a circle about 1 inch thick.
8. Use a sharp knife to cut the dough into 8 equal wedges.
9. Place the scones on the prepared baking sheet and bake for 18-20 minutes, or until golden brown.
