Recipe Name: Chinese Char Siu Pork
Ingredients:
- 1 lb pork tenderloin or pork shoulder
- 1/4 cup soy sauce
- 1/4 cup hoisin sauce
- 2 tbsp honey
- 2 tbsp Chinese rice wine or dry sherry
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tsp five-spice powder
- 1/2 tsp ground white pepper
- 1 tsp sesame oil
- Red food coloring (optional, for traditional red color)
Step by Step Guide:
1. In a bowl, mix together soy sauce, hoisin sauce, honey, Chinese rice wine, minced garlic, five-spice powder, white pepper, and sesame oil. Add a few drops of red food coloring if desired for the traditional red color of char siu.
2. Place the pork tenderloin or pork shoulder in a large resealable plastic bag or a shallow dish. Pour the marinade over the pork, making sure it is well coated. Marinate in the refrigerator for at least 4 hours, or preferably overnight.
3. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Remove the pork from the marinade and place it on a baking sheet lined with aluminum foil.
4. Roast the pork in the preheated oven for about 25-30 minutes, or until the internal temperature reaches 145°F (63°C), basting with the marinade every 10 minutes.
5. Once the pork is cooked through, switch the oven to broil and broil the pork for an additional 5-10 minutes, or until the edges are slightly charred and caramelized.
6. Remove the pork from the oven and let it rest for 5-10 minutes before slicing it thinly.
7. Serve the Chinese Char Siu Pork with steamed rice, noodles, or vegetables. Enjoy your delicious homemade char siu pork!
