Ingredients:
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 ¼ teaspoons active dry yeast
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1 ½ cups warm water (around 110°F/43°C)

Step-by-Step Guide:

1. Activate the yeast: In a small bowl, combine the warm water and sugar. Stir until the sugar is dissolved. Sprinkle the yeast over the water and let it sit for about 5 minutes until it becomes frothy.

2. Prepare the dough: In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and a pinch of salt. Make a well in the center and pour in the activated yeast mixture. Mix with a wooden spoon until the dough starts to come together.

3. Knead the dough: Transfer the dough onto a lightly floured surface. Begin kneading the dough, using the heel of your hand to push it away from you, then fold it back over itself. Continue kneading for about 10 minutes until the dough becomes smooth and elastic.

4. First rise: Shape the dough into a ball and place it in a greased bowl. Cover the bowl with a clean kitchen towel or plastic wrap. Allow the dough to rise in a warm, draft-free place for about 1 to 1 ½ hours, or until it doubles in size.

5. Shape the loaf: Once the dough has risen, gently punch it down to release any air bubbles. Transfer it to a lightly floured surface and shape it into a loaf by folding the sides inward and rolling it tightly from one end to the other. Pinch the seam to seal.

6. Second rise: Place the shaped loaf on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper or in a greased loaf pan. Cover it with the kitchen towel or plastic wrap and let it rise for another 30 to 45 minutes, until it puffs up slightly.

7. Preheat the oven: While the dough is rising for the second time, preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).

8. Bake the bread: Once the dough has finished its second rise, remove the cover and place the baking sheet or loaf pan in the preheated oven. Bake for about 25 to 30 minutes, or until the bread is golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom.

9. Cooling: Remove the bread from the oven and transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely before slicing.
