Ingredients:
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, cold and cut into small pieces
- 1/2 cup milk
- Oil for frying
- French chips (French fries) for serving

Instructions:
1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
2. Add the cold butter pieces to the dry ingredients and use your fingers to rub the butter into the flour mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs.
3. Slowly pour in the milk and mix until a dough forms. Be careful not to overmix.
4. Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead it gently a few times until it comes together.
5. Roll out the dough to about 1/2 inch thickness and use a cookie cutter to cut out circles for the fat cakes.
6. Heat oil in a deep fryer or heavy-bottomed pot to 350°F (180°C).
7. Carefully drop the fat cakes into the hot oil and fry until golden brown on both sides, about 2-3 minutes per side.
8. Remove the fat cakes from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
9. Serve the French fat cakes with a side of French chips (French fries) for a delicious and indulgent treat.
