Ingredients:
- 2 large onions, thinly sliced
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 1 sheet of puff pastry
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Fresh thyme leaves for garnish

Instructions:
1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
2. In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat.
3. Add the thinly sliced onions to the skillet and cook, stirring occasionally, until they start to soften and caramelize, about 15-20 minutes.
4. Sprinkle the sugar over the onions and continue to cook until they are golden brown and caramelized, about 5-10 minutes more. Season with salt and pepper.
5. Roll out the puff pastry sheet on a baking tray lined with parchment paper.
6. Spread the caramelized onions evenly over the puff pastry, leaving a small border around the edges.
7. Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the pastry is golden brown and crispy.
8. Remove from the oven and let cool slightly before cutting into squares.
9. Garnish with fresh thyme leaves before serving.
