Ingredients:
- 1 cup arhar dal (split pigeon peas)
- 1 cup rice
- 2 green chillies, chopped
- 1 tsp cumin seeds
- 1 tsp turmeric powder
- 1 tsp red chilli powder
- Salt to taste
- Water
- 2 tbsp oil
Step by Step Guide:
1. Rinse the arhar dal and rice separately under running water.
2. In a pressure cooker, heat oil and add cumin seeds. Let them splutter.
3. Add chopped green chillies and sauté for a minute.
4. Add the rinsed arhar dal and rice to the cooker.
5. Add turmeric powder, red chilli powder, and salt. Mix well.
6. Pour in enough water (approximately 4 cups) to cover the dal and rice mixture.
7. Close the pressure cooker lid and cook on medium heat for 3-4 whistles.
8. Once the pressure releases naturally, open the lid and give the dal rice a good stir.
9. Adjust the consistency by adding more water if needed.
10. Serve hot with a side of pickle or yogurt.
