Recipe Name: Onion Rice
Ingredients:
- 1 cup rice
- 1 medium-sized onion, thinly sliced
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 cups water
Step-by-Step Guide:
1. Rinse the rice under cold water until the water runs clear. Drain well and set aside.
2. In a medium-sized pot, heat some oil over medium heat. Add the thinly sliced onions and sauté until they turn golden brown and caramelized, stirring occasionally. This process may take around 10-15 minutes.
3. Once the onions are caramelized, remove half of them from the pot and set them aside for garnishing later.
4. Add the rinsed rice to the pot with the remaining caramelized onions. Stir well to coat the rice with the onion flavor.
5. Pour in the water and add the salt. Stir gently to combine all the ingredients.
6. Bring the mixture to a boil over high heat. Once boiling, reduce the heat to low, cover the pot with a lid, and let it simmer for about 15-20 minutes, or until the rice is cooked and all the water is absorbed.
7. Once the rice is cooked, remove the pot from the heat and let it sit, covered, for an additional 5 minutes to allow the steam to finish cooking the rice.
8. Fluff the rice with a fork, mixing in the caramelized onions that were set aside earlier.
9. Serve the onion rice hot as a side dish or as a main course. It pairs well with grilled meats, curries, or roasted vegetables.
Enjoy your delicious Onion Rice!
