Make Pierogi with Meat

Recipe: Pierogi with Meat

Ingredients:
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 large egg
- 1/2 cup water
- 1 lb ground meat (beef, pork, or chicken)
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 2 tbsp vegetable oil
- Sour cream and chopped chives for serving

Instructions:
1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt. Make a well in the center and add the egg and water. Mix until a dough forms, then knead on a floured surface until smooth. Cover with a damp cloth and let rest for 30 minutes.
2. In a skillet, heat the vegetable oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and garlic, sauté until translucent.
3. Add the ground meat to the skillet and cook until browned, breaking it up with a spoon as it cooks. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
4. Roll out the dough on a floured surface to about 1/8 inch thickness. Use a round cutter or glass to cut out circles of dough.
5. Place a spoonful of the meat mixture in the center of each dough circle. Fold the dough over the filling to form a half-moon shape, then pinch the edges to seal.
6. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Drop the pierogi in batches and cook for about 5 minutes, or until they float to the surface.
7. Remove the pierogi with a slotted spoon and drain on a paper towel. Serve hot with sour cream and chopped chives.
