Make Thanksgiving Roasted Turkey
Recipe Name: Thanksgiving Roasted Turkey
Ingredients:
- 1 whole turkey (12-14 pounds)
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 2 teaspoons salt
- 1 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1 teaspoon dried thyme
- 1 teaspoon dried rosemary
- 1 teaspoon dried sage
- 1 onion, quartered
- 1 lemon, halved
- 4 cloves garlic, smashed
- 2 cups chicken or turkey broth
Instructions:
1. Preheat the oven to 325°F (165°C).
2. Remove the turkey from the packaging and pat it dry with paper towels.
3. In a small bowl, mix together the softened butter, olive oil, salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, thyme, rosemary, and sage to make a herb butter.
4. Gently loosen the skin of the turkey from the breast and thighs. Rub half of the herb butter mixture under the skin, making sure to evenly distribute it.
5. Rub the remaining herb butter all over the outside of the turkey.
6. Stuff the cavity of the turkey with the quartered onion, halved lemon, and smashed garlic cloves.
7. Place the turkey on a roasting rack in a roasting pan.
8. Pour the chicken or turkey broth into the bottom of the roasting pan.
9. Cover the turkey loosely with foil and roast in the preheated oven for about 3 to 4 hours, basting every 30 minutes with the pan juices.
10. Remove the foil during the last 30 minutes of cooking to allow the skin to brown and crisp up.
11. The turkey is done when a meat thermometer inserted into the thickest part of the thigh reads 165°F (74°C).
12. Once cooked, remove the turkey from the oven and let it rest for 20-30 minutes before carving.
13. Serve the roasted turkey with your favorite Thanksgiving sides and enjoy!
